Redman makes a triumphant return - tube talk

THE Yallingup Malibu Classic was greeted with perfect surf last weekend with a swell that picked up to 1.8m for the final day.

Competitors from all over the State battled it out but it was the locals who took top honours. Dunsborough’s Justin Redman made an incredible return to competition tearing the waves apart with every turn. Redman claimed the blue-ribbon open men’s division with his powerful surfing and local wave knowledge. Bob Monkman (Dunsborough) was crowned the champion of the paddle board division with an exciting performance against quality opposition such as Damon Eastaugh and Damian ‘Taco’ Warr.

This was the first year the division was held and it looks like it will be a regular feature at future events. Monkman also claimed the over 55’s division. Locals Adam Lane carved his way to win the over 40’s while Jade Foster won the open women’s final. Travis Bulbeck claimed the junior men’s title for 2008.

Yallingup’s Mikalea Greene has put in a stellar performance at the Australian Junior Titles held in Margaret River last week. In the under-16s she placed second by the narrowest of margins to Tyler Wright from NSW. Local knowledge of the powerful SW surf paid off for Greene who was only 0.03 of a point behind Wright. Congratulations to all the riders in what was a big week of surf.
